The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – Our first podcast

We are so proud, our first official BP podcast is born.  Find out more about it on the podcast page right above you.  We stream all our shows through Soundcloud, where you can download and listen to the show on your very own device. We also stream them through Mixcloud, so I have included both links here.  We like Soundcloud, but we LOVE Mixcloud.  So you can guess who we recommend.

Babypop – France Gall, this 1966 track is not the funkiest or the grooviest of the Gall catalogue, but hey, its still written by Serge Gainsbourg

crischa.jpeg
Paix Sur Terre- Crischa – 1972 Belgian Psych, how damned cool is this track? Comped recently on the Born Bad Wizzz #3

Entre Nous C’est Fini – Dick Rivers – Womack and Womack song made famous by the Rolling Stones, given a French makeover by the master Dick Rivers in 1964. Pick up this EP everywhere for less than the price of a coffee

Si Je Chante – Sylvie Vartan – A cover of the Brenda Lee classic ‘My whole world is falling down’ from a 1963 EP

anna
Serge Gainsbourg – C’Est La Cristallisation Comme Dit Stendhal from 1967 with Vocals by– Jean-Claude Brialy, Serge Gainsbourg from the original Japanese vinyl edition Sample lyric ‘Baby gum, Baby gum, Lolita Lola Gum!’

lucertola
Giorno Di Notte – Ennio Morricone – from the soundtrack of Una Lucertola Con La Pelle Di Donna or
A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin was released in 1971 and it’s so psyched out it ain’t funny. Morricone at best, check out the lizard sounds. Of course, being an Italian film in the early 70s, it is not about lizards, but LSD orgies and murder.

7 volte 7
Seven Times Blues – Armando Trovaioli – From the soundtrack of 7 Volte 7 (7 times 7) released in 1968, this funky track is a slow builder, with a few easy listening brass patches. From the Japanese repress (I can’t afford an original!)

mamy blue
Mamy Blue – Daydé – Released in 1971 this song surprisingly exceeds the price I paid for (50 eurocents in a thrift store in Lille). Daydé was originally from the French prog band Zoo. This track was recorded in English in London and reached number 2 in my native Australia. The things the internets tells ya!

polnareff's
Hey You Woman – Michel Polnareff – This amazing track comes from the equally amazing ‘Polnareff’s’ LP released in 1971 described by all music as ‘”psychedelic pop masterpiece”, “so bloody well-executed and produced, it cannot be anything but brilliant….pretentious French psychedelic soul at its most garish and essential’

And that my friends is that for Show 1. Until next time
